This incredible life-size model allows unrestricted study of maternal and fetal structures, including the interior of the placenta and the umbilical cord. The maternal side of the model features deep red decidual structures, characterized by cotyledons. The fetal side of the model shows the smooth, shiny amnion (amnion) partially removed, revealing the intervillous space, with the umbilical cord attached near its center and the umbilical vessels radiating outward from it. The removable umbilical cord clearly shows the umbilical vessels (veins and arteries), which are surrounded by Wharton's jelly and encased in the amnion.
